What is Avon About? – An MLM Review

avon skin so soft

Avon is a very popular name in the MLM industry. Who has not heard of Avons GREAT product, Skin so Soft?

So, What is Avon About?

Did you ever hear of the California Perfume Company? That was Avons original name back in 1892.

Avon is an MLM, or Multi Level Marketing business that sells beauty, household, and personal care products

Avon had sales over $5.4 billion worldwide in 2018.

Avon is the 5th largest beauty company. Worldwide it has just over 6.4 million representatives, which makes them the second largest direct-selling business in the world.

Amway holds the spot for the largest direct selling company in the world.

But if you want to see a truly awesome company, check out my #1 Recommendation!

Did you know that Brazil buys the most Avon products than any other country in the world, including the United States?

It is true. Annual sales of products in Brazil passed annual sales in the U.S. back in 2010.

In fact, just last year In May 2019, a Brazilian company called, Natura & Co announced that it has a desire to buy Avon, with the deal expected to close sometime in 2020.

The featured product above, “Skin So Soft & Sensual Gelled Body Oil” is advertised on their website for $13., but if you enter your zip code and purchase thru one of their representatives, you can get it for just $6.99! That is quite the bargain!

What is Avon’s Mission Statement?

From its website, Avon.com, Avon says that “our mission is too celebrate women’s power to make a beautiful and positive impact in the world.”

I guess that kinda leaves us men out, oh well. Smile.

One thing I do like about Avons products is that they do not test them on animals, in the U.S. anyway.

Hear is a quote from Avon.com.

“Animal Welfare Policy”

“Commitment to Science…Respect for Animal Welfare”

“New Avon Company (“Avon”), with operations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico and through affiliation in Canada, has deep respect for animal welfare and does not conduct animal testing.

Avon is a strong advocate of both the ethical and humane treatment of animals and the protection of human health and safety.

Our products are developed utilizing alternative testing methods such as extrapolations from existing data, computational modeling, in vitro (test tube/cell culture) testing and clinical tests with human volunteers, to ensure both their efficacy and safety.”

Unfortunately it is not so in China. For some reason China actually requires animal testing to be done if Avon wants to sell their products there. It seems that Avon is trying to come to some resolution about this though, which is very good.

Avon member optionsI really like the Bestsellers Starter Kit for just $30. They are giving you $107 worth of Product! Wow!

All of that was pretty easy, but lets do some more research on the company itself.

Becoming an Avon Representative, Is it Worth It?

As we dig a little deeper we see the SEC, or Securities Exchange Commision which regulates fair business practices in the U.S. opened a case against Avon in 2008.

Bribery charges were evident and Avon investigated who was responsible and fired the reps that were guilty.

In 2014 Avon negotiated with the SEC and settled with them for a fine totaling $135 million.

It is sad when a few bad eggs hurt the reputation of a truly fine company such as Avon.

Because of these huge fines, it obviously affected Avon’s bottom line and Great Reputation.

In 2014, its total sales globally had fallen for 5 years in a row, and its North American sales fell around 18% that year.

All in all it looks like the hit they took in 2014 really hurt them.

Are Any Avon Reps Making Money?

As with any MLM company that has been around for a while and have great products, there are always a few at the top making the big money. But what about the rest?

Some Avon Reps claim that they are making over $2 Million per year.

I was unable to verify these earnings, but I do believe that they are true.

If you go to an Avon presentation you will hear stories of high income earners.

The presenters will tell you that they are an example of what is possible for anyone.

However, the truth is, that those who are actually making good money are the exception.

Jon Taylor has shown that about 99.7% of all people who join any network marketing company will end up losing money.

This is shown in his free book ‘Multi-Level Marketing Unmasked’.

Here is a direct screenshot from page 9 of Jon Taylors free PDF entitled “Multi Level Marketing Unmasked.”

Even with my own experience with MLM it is only the very TOP Talented Business Recruiters who make it.

I was involved with Melaleuca for two years, and though it is an absolutely great company, the bottom line is that to be successful you have to be a GREAT salesman, not just a good one!

Conclusion: To Join or Not To Join?

There is no doubt that Avon has some absolutely amazing products! I have bought and used the skin so soft product some years ago.

If you are an exceptional salesperson and love Avon Products, then this could be a winner for you.

However if you are like most of us and are not very good at sales, and would rather have a root canal than to have to sell things to others, perhaps it would not be a good fit. dentist

The fact that they have survived for so many decades is a really good indication that the company is doing a lot of things right, and it is remarkable how they bounced back from the 2014 scandal when a few of its high level reps broke the law.

Bottom line is any MLM is very difficult to succeed with, perhaps you have your own experience.

That is why myself and thousands of others have chosen a different business model to work with that does not involve selling things directly.

Let Your Website do The Selling

For decades while I was deeply involved in MLM I dreamed of doing selling from a website online. Affiliate Marketing has shown me a much better and easier business model for making a passive income from home.
